April 2008

Daisy had been being sick on and off for two weeks but was very bright in herself!  As she has a habit of eating things in the garden, her owners were duly concerned that she may have eaten something she shouldn't have.  A couple of days later, her abdomen was very tense and she was admitted for x-rays.

X-rays confirmed a mass in stomach and it was decided to perform a gastrotomy to remove the offending article.  Intravenous fluid therapy was administered during surgery and a 'not very shiny 2p coin' was duly removed!  Daisy's stomach was sutured back up and she was only given intravenous fluids for the next 24 hours.  Antibiotics were also prescribed.

The following day she was given oral re-hydration diet.  Little and often was allowed and later on, special recovery food.

Daisy bounced back very quickly and six days later was able to eat her usual food.  Hopefully she wont eat anything she shouldn't again but looking at the photo below . . .
