Chelsea was finding it difficult
and painful to pass urine and when she did, there was blood in it (haematuria).
Her bladder felt very thickened and radiographs confirmed a very large bladder
calculus (urolith/stone).

Chelsea was admitted for a general anaesthetic and a
cystotomy was performed.
The bladder is exposed and an incision made into it in order for
the urinary stone to be removed.

The stone is made up of millions of crystals and
took up most of the bladder

The bladder is then sutured closed.

Initially Chelsea's owners had to monitor her closely to make
sure she was passing urine normally. Two days later Chelsea was doing
really well and following a course of pain relief and antibiotics, 9 days later
her skin sutures were removed. Chelsea has now made a full recovery.
