Hammy (the cat) went missing for
two days and on his return his owners were horrified to discover his tail was
completely missing and there was a gaping wound where it had once been.
Radiographs were taken to establish the level of bone damage
and these confirmed that all his tail bones were missing. The wound was
thoroughly cleaned and sutured closed. It was essential to determine that
Hammy was able to pass faeces as there was concern as to the extent of the
damage to the muscles of the rectum (last section of bowel). Also we needed to
establish that the nerves to his bladder and hind legs had not been damaged at
the time of the accident.

Hammy's owners later discovered that the probable cause of his
injury was an industrial lawn mower.
