Tom our eldest son, tried to undertake one of the toughest and
most demanding challenges of his life! To raise money for disabled
children and young adults, he was to climb to the first camp of Mount Everest.
Tom was due to leave on 7th November 09 but unfortunately he
was diagnosed with suspected glandular fever so had to postpone the trip until
April this year. Having re-booked to go at the beginning of April he then
faced disappointment for a second time when the company cancelled the trip.
Not to be defeated, Tom booked a third time and was due to fly out of Heathrow
on Sunday 18th April only to be prevented from doing so following the eruption
of the volcano and the ensuing ash polluting the sky above Europe.
The charity he is supporting works to give disabled children
and young adults aged up to 26 years old, the opportunity to participate in the
world of sports. They provide high-tech specially built sports
wheelchairs, which allow disabled children the chance to play and compete in
events like tennis, athletics, rugby, basketball, marathons and even mountain
skiing, as well as many more.
Get Kids Going also provides personalised manual
wheelchairs and trikes for children to use everyday, at home and at school.
The cost of one specially designed sports wheelchair is about
£3000 and it is Tom's aim to raise this amount so that someone can enjoy all
that he has through playing and participating in many different sports.
Thank you all so much for your support and sponsorship money
which has already gone to the charity. However, if you would like to help him
achieve his goal any level of sponsorship big or small will be greatly
appreciated.
Donations can still be handed in to reception at our practice or
made via Tom's charity website
www.justgiving.com/Tom-Warner which is a fast and secure way of making sure
your donation goes straight to the charity.
