The uterus is located and an incision made within the uterine
horn(s) to enable removal of each puppy

The umbilicus is clamped using an artery forcep.
The puppy is then handed to a nurse who checks for a heart
beat and clears any remaining mucus membranes from around the mouth and nose.
The puppy is gently but firmly rubbed to stimulate breathing if necessary and to
dry the coat. This is repeated for each puppy.

The placentas are each removed from the uterine horns after
each individual puppy is 'born'

The uterus is then sutured

The muscles are sutured followed by the subcutaneous skin

Skin sutures complete the surgical procedure

As soon as possible the puppies are put with the mother and
encouraged to suckle
